How I Curate AI Tools

My methodology for selecting, reviewing, and maintaining the PickMyAI catalog

🎯 How I Select Tools

Quality Over Quantity

I don't list every AI tool that exists. I focus on tools that solve real problems for real people. Each tool must meet my criteria before being added.

My Selection Criteria:

  • ✓ Solves a specific problem
The tool must address a clear use case, not just be "AI for the sake of AI"
  • ✓ Actually works
I test every tool myself. If it doesn't deliver on its promise, it doesn't make the list
  • ✓ Clear pricing
No hidden costs or confusing tiers. I document pricing clearly and warn about cost creep
  • ✓ Accessible
The tool should be usable by its target audience without excessive technical knowledge
  • ✓ Active development
I prioritize tools that are actively maintained and improved

✅ What "Human-Vetted" Means

Every tool in the catalog is reviewed by me personally. Here's what that involves:

1. Hands-On Testing

I create accounts, run through workflows, and use the tool for its intended purpose

2. Pricing Analysis

I document all tiers, identify hidden costs, and assess value for money

3. Privacy Review

I read privacy policies and flag data handling concerns

4. Use Case Mapping

I identify what the tool is best for AND what it's not ideal for

🔄 Review & Update Frequency

I review tools weekly and update the catalog based on:

  • 📅 Scheduled reviews: Every tool is re-reviewed at least quarterly
  • 🚨 Breaking changes: Major pricing or feature changes trigger immediate re-review
  • 💬 User feedback: I investigate user reports and update accordingly
  • 🆕 New tools: I evaluate 10-20 new tools weekly, adding 1-3 on average

🗑️ Why I Remove Tools

I'm not afraid to remove tools from the catalog. Transparency matters. Here's when I remove a tool:

  • Shut down or abandoned: Tool is no longer maintained
  • Pricing became predatory: Unexpected price hikes or hidden costs
  • Privacy concerns: Changes to data handling that harm users
  • Better alternatives exist: Another tool does the job better
  • Doesn't work as advertised: Tool fails to deliver on promises

I maintain a "Tools Removed" section on the homepage with reasons for removal.

👤 Who I Am

PickMyAI is built by a solo technical founder who was frustrated by generic AI tool directories. I wanted a resource that actually helps people make decisions, not just browse.

This site is in Public Beta, which means I'm actively improving based on user feedback. If you have suggestions or spot an error, please let me know.

🚫 Zero Affiliate Links

To ensure 100% objectivity, PickMyAI uses ZERO affiliate links.

I do not earn commissions when you click links. This means I have absolutely no financial incentive to recommend expensive tools over free or cheaper alternatives. My only goal is to find tools that actually work for you.
