How We Curate AI Tools

Our methodology for selecting, reviewing, and maintaining the PickMyAI catalog

🎯 How We Select Tools

Quality Over Quantity

We don't list every AI tool that exists. We focus on tools that solve real problems for real people. Each tool must meet our criteria before being added.

Our Selection Criteria:

  • ✓ Solves a specific problem
The tool must address a clear use case, not just be "AI for the sake of AI"
  • ✓ Actually works
We test every tool ourselves. If it doesn't deliver on its promise, it doesn't make the list
  • ✓ Clear pricing
No hidden costs or confusing tiers. We document pricing clearly and warn about cost creep
  • ✓ Accessible
The tool should be usable by its target audience without excessive technical knowledge
  • ✓ Active development
We prioritize tools that are actively maintained and improved

✅ What "Human-Vetted" Means

Every tool in our catalog is reviewed by a real person. Here's what that involves:

1. Hands-On Testing

We create accounts, run through workflows, and use the tool for its intended purpose

2. Pricing Analysis

We document all tiers, identify hidden costs, and assess value for money

3. Privacy Review

We read privacy policies and flag data handling concerns

4. Use Case Mapping

We identify what the tool is best for AND what it's not ideal for

🔄 Review & Update Frequency

We review tools weekly and update our catalog based on:

  • 📅 Scheduled reviews: Every tool is re-reviewed at least quarterly
  • 🚨 Breaking changes: Major pricing or feature changes trigger immediate re-review
  • 💬 User feedback: We investigate user reports and update accordingly
  • 🆕 New tools: We evaluate 10-20 new tools weekly, adding 1-3 on average

🗑️ Why We Remove Tools

We're not afraid to remove tools from our catalog. Transparency matters. Here's when we remove a tool:

  • Shut down or abandoned: Tool is no longer maintained
  • Pricing became predatory: Unexpected price hikes or hidden costs
  • Privacy concerns: Changes to data handling that harm users
  • Better alternatives exist: Another tool does the job better
  • Doesn't work as advertised: Tool fails to deliver on promises

We maintain a "Tools Removed" section on the homepage with reasons for removal.

👥 Who We Are

PickMyAI is built by a small team of product managers, engineers, and AI enthusiasts who were frustrated by generic AI tool directories. We wanted a resource that actually helps people make decisions, not just browse.

We're in Public Beta, which means we're actively improving based on user feedback. If you have suggestions or spot an error, please let us know.

We only recommend tools we've tested and believe are useful. If a tool is bad, we won't list it — regardless of potential commissions.
